Ergonomic Solutions for Call Center Stress
The right kind of ergonomics can help call centers reduce stress at the workplace. Ergonomics in the construction of the cubicles and the chairs can help BPO units keep physical stress at bay. Physical stress does not always mean that you will have to do physically demanding work. You can sit at a cubicle and keep tapping away at your keyboard and still feel fatigued. There are a number of physical conditions that can eat into your telemarketing productivity.
Spinal cord problems, neck and shoulder pain and thoracic issues are quite common among the call center agents. It is the responsibility of the management to ensure that this niggles and injuries do not happen.

Call centres must always spend the right amount of money to get the ergonomics right. Without the proper seating and working conditions for the call center agents, the work can be affected. Telemarketing agents have to work continuously for long hours. Unless they are comfortable in their seats and have the right body posture, the stasis in their seats will get to them. It will tire them off easily and they will need to take comfort breaks more frequently. This further cuts into the telemarketing services productivity. If these ergonomics continue for days, the work will become a sort of trouble for them. Helios Outsourcing is very particular about this.

Lord Young of Graffham, adviser to the government on health and safety, has defined ‘common sense’ as used in the title of his recent report Common Sense, Common Safety.

It is the things that you would normally do.”
- Government advisor to give first full speech since his report’s publication
- Industry stakeholders’ excitement over seminar grows
INSURANCE and health and safety professionals will get their first opportunity to engage with Lord Young on Monday, following the publication last week of his report Common Sense, Common Safety.

Gerard Forlin QC, who will also speak at the event, said, “The UK has the best health and safety record in the world. We must be very careful that this pole position is maintained. Nothing must jeopardise it.
“That said, it is true that certain aspects of health and safety legislation and, in particular, how certain cases are investigated, funded and brought may need to be reviewed. Getting the correct balance will be an extremely difficult task to achieve. We all need to work together on this important task.”
In in the present day’s workplace setting, ergonomic workplace chairs are very vital. At work, many workplace staff are sitting more than eight hours per day. Throughout this time, it’s essential that ergonomic chairs be used, as they may help reduce shoulder, back, and neck strain. Regardless that they could value greater than the usual workplace chair, they are a smart investment just because they improve productiveness and may also help prevent severe injury.
When you choose the right ergonomic provide chair, there are several factors you must consider. You’ll want chairs with an adjustable seat, the right lumbar help, backrest, adequate seat depth and width, arm rests, and the power to swivel. You also needs to learn the instruction manual as well and be certain that the entire adjustment mechanisms function properly. If you find a chair to be faulty in any way, it must be returned immediately.
Take into account when choosing your chairs that there’s really no “one dimension matches all” for every body type. What’s greatest for one individual may not be your best option for another. Before shopping for a chair you should give it a attempt to see what you reckon. If it is not possible to test out the chair, it is best to just remember to can get a refund if one thing goes incorrect.
Before you buy or use an ergonomic chair it’s best to fully know proper posture and ergonomics whereas at work or at home. One of the fundamentals to ergonomics is ensuring [that a] chair’s seat top will allow the consumer’s ft to stay firmly planted on the floor. It is also excellent if the chair provides a lumbar help, which can fit the inward curve of the lower again area.

Office furniture is an essential part of the office interior and it must perfectly fit into the office design scheme. It should also be ergonomically designed to make sure that employees develop no physical complications after prolonged use of the furniture.
An ordinary worker spends a sizable part of his day at the office, so he faces the danger of grievous health issues if he or she has to sit in an awkward position or bend over his desk during work. Hence it is critical for employers to ensure that office furniture, particularly office chairs, are designed to maximize employees’ comfort.
Any purchase of office chairs must be made only after making sure of a few things. You should ensure that the selected office chairs are steady, easily movable and optimally adjustable. The arm rests of chairs must fulfill their purpose well, and the height should be changeable so that the occupant can adjust the chair as per his requirement. The chair should allow comfortable movement of hands and legs such that the worker can execute his jobs without any obstructions. The back support is the most important component of an office chair. It must be sufficiently curved and cushioned to provide the back and the spinal cord maximum support and rest when used.
A new online risk assessment will help cut back the time it takes to weigh up the hazards in offices to just 20 minutes.
The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) has produced the web tool to help employers to consider relevant hazards in their office and think about how they control them to keep staff safe. Launched today, the tool will help avoid unnecessary paperwork and bureaucracy for office-based businesses, which tend to be low risk.
Safety officials will take account of the results of the assessments when they carry out inspections – evidence that businesses have taken appropriate steps to manage workplace risk.
Judith Hackitt, the HSE chair, said:
“Many people assume that risk assessments need to be long, formal documents covering every hazard, no matter how minor or unlikely to occur. That’s not the case and the new 20-minute risk assessments make it clear that this can be done for any office quickly and easily.
Ergo Journal regularly publish articles, tips and advice on how to arrange your office workstation in an attempt to raise awareness of basic workstation ergonomics and reduce the stresses we each face on a daily basis.
With laptop computers now firmly outstripping sales of desktop computers around the globe, additional consideration by individuals and employers should be given to workstation ergonomics if the laptop is going to be used for any reasonable amount of time in one place.
I use a laptop myself and make sure I practice what I preach by using a laptop stand to lift the screen height, a dedicated mini keyboard, wrist rest, ergonomic chair and so on as I predominantly use my laptop whilst at my desk in the office.
We recently discovered a highly insightful white paper published by Ergoton, specialists in display mounting technology. The white paper is based on academic research spanning 25 years on the subject of comfortable computing and is entitled: Comfortable Portable Computing: The ergonomic way.
